O’Neal Hosts Event to Help Vehicle Owners Replace Illegible License Plates
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today reminded vehicle owners that if their license plates are difficult to read, replacement plates are available for free. To help facilitate the process to turn in the illegible plate for a new one, O’Neal is teaming up with the Washington County Sheriff’s office for an event on Thursday, Aug. 24, at Wild Things Park.
The event will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the Wild Things Park parking lot at 1 Washington Federal Way, Washington. An RSVP is required by calling 724-223-4541 or by visiting

“I held a similar event last year that drew a lot of interest,” O’Neal said. “As my legislative district changed due to redistricting, I want to repeat this opportunity for my new constituents and my old constituents who weren’t able to attend the other event. Many people don’t realize this can be done for free.”
If the plate is determined to be illegible, paperwork will be completed for no fee. A new replacement plate should arrive in a few weeks to the vehicle owner’s home address.
According to PennDOT, a registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet or if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration or loss of reflectivity.
