Flood Mitigation Grant Awarded to Chartiers, O’Neal Says

September 17, 2019

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today announced a $273,490 flood mitigation grant has been awarded to Chartiers Township to replace a culvert.

O’Neal advocated for the funding through the state’s Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Flood Mitigation Program. It is part of the Marcellus Legacy Fund under Act 13 of 2012 and funds statewide initiatives to assist with flood mitigation projects.

“Flooding can not only cause property damage, but also impact transportation routes,” O’Neal said. “This project will help avert flooding from Chartiers Creek.”

The grant will replace dual 24-inch culverts with a single culvert that has sufficient capacity to prevent flooding of three homes and the roadway of McClane Farm Road.

The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes the city of Washington; Chartiers, North Franklin, North Strabane and South Strabane townships; and Canonsburg, East Washington and Houston boroughs.
