O’Neal Reacts to Governor’s RGGI Executive Order
October 3, 2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today issued the following statement in response to the governor announcing he is taking steps administratively to commit Pennsylvania to enter into full participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI):
“The governor does not have the power to unilaterally bind Pennsylvania to participate in RGGI. The separation of powers guaranteed in our U.S. and state Constitutions allow for the input of all parties in decision-making. I’m disappointed the Legislature was not given a chance to voice concerns before this action was taken.
“Full participation in the RGGI will likely increase the energy bill for families, seniors, nonprofits, colleges and businesses. I urge my constituents to express their opinions on the governor’s actions to the Environmental Quality Board.”
The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes the city of Washington; Chartiers, North Franklin, North Strabane and South Strabane townships; and Canonsburg, East Washington and Houston boroughs.
