O’Neal Appointed to Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy Advisory Board
October 9, 2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today announced he has been appointed by Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) to the Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy Advisory Board.
The Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy was created under Act 51 of 2018. This dropout recovery program helps at-risk youth earn a high school diploma or its equivalent, preparing them to move on to higher education, employment or military service. It currently operates in more than two dozen states and will be overseen by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA).
“As a combat veteran, I know firsthand the discipline, teamwork, leadership and other skills gained from military training,” O’Neal said. “I’m eager to assist with development of this program in the Commonwealth.”
The 10-member advisory board includes the adjutant general, three gubernatorial appointees, three state senators and three state House members. It will assist with implementation of the program in the Commonwealth. It offers participants military-based training, supervised work experience, leadership development and promotion of community service, and life coping and job skills.
The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes the city of Washington; Chartiers, North Franklin, North Strabane and South Strabane townships; and Canonsburg, East Washington and Houston boroughs.
