The SpringHouse Country Store Awarded Grant, O’Neal Says

January 22, 2020

HARRISBURG — Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today announced The SpringHouse Country Store in North Strabane Township has been awarded a $50,000 Pennsylvania Dairy Investment Program grant to produce additional products.

The program under the Commonwealth Financing Authority assists with research and development, organic transition, value-added processing and marketing in support of Pennsylvania’s dairy industry.

“The SpringHouse Country Store has provided milk to area residents for several decades,” O’Neal said. “The dairy industry has faced some challenges in recent history. As with any business, it is important to adapt to changing customer preferences. This grant will help position the company to meet consumer needs.”

More specially, the grant will be used to add flavored milk and drinkable yogurt to the store’s product line. The country store opened more than 40 years ago to provide farm-fresh milk to surrounding communities. It currently sells milk it produced on the farm, as well as eggnog and heavy cream.

The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes the city of Washington; Chartiers, North Franklin, North Strabane and South Strabane townships; and Canonsburg, East Washington and Houston boroughs.
