Trinity Area Awarded Food Service Equipment Grant, Ortitay, O’Neal Say
January 28, 2020
HARRISBURG – Reps. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) and Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today announced a $37,157 grant from the Food Service Equipment Program was awarded to Trinity Area School District.
The grants are funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and are awarded to school districts that participate in the National School Lunch Program and have 50% or more of their students eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Trinity was one of 72 Pennsylvania elementary, middle and high schools to receive money.
“Studies have shown hungry children do not learn,” Ortitay said. “With the right equipment, our schools can remove the barrier hunger can cause. Just like our own homes, appliances must be replaced periodically when they reach the end of their life cycle.”
“As the father of two school-aged children, I have seen firsthand the importance of providing a warm, highly nutritious lunch,” O’Neal said. “This grant will help our dedicated cafeteria workers more easily prepare food.”
The money will be used by Trinity North Elementary School to purchase a combi oven, which uses three methods of cooking in one appliance – convention, steam and a combination of steam and convection.
