O’Neal Votes in Favor of Temporary State Budget

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today issued the following statement in response to the House on Tuesday approving a $25.989 billion temporary Fiscal Year 2020-21 state budget:

“I supported the temporary budget to ensure that we have a stable foundation as far as operating state government through the summer and into the fall. By then we should begin to understand the true financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Once this picture is clear, I expect a prolonged debate on the remainder of the 2020-21 Fiscal Year state budget. This temporary plan funds 75% of the expenditures from the current year budget, including level funding for all stages of education and debt obligations for the entire year. This will give our school districts assurances as they finalize their budgets in the coming weeks.

“How we decide to fund line items with the remaining state revenues will be up for debate in the fall. Some painful cuts may be necessary. I will not support any tax increases on our hard-working Pennsylvanians who have suffered both financially and emotionally this spring.”
