September 25, 2020
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today announced almost $200,000 in Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2) grants were awarded for park projects in South Strabane Township and the city of Washington.
The funding comes from the Community Parks and Partnership program, which assists communities with the planning and development of public parks, recreation, conservation areas and facilities.
“Access to parks and other recreational opportunities improve both physical and mental health,” O’Neal said. “Especially during this pandemic with many people staying closer to home, it’s important to have places available to take a break. I look forward to visiting both parks once the work is completed.”
South Strabane Township was awarded $46,100 for rehabilitation and further development of Billy Bell Park. The project will include construction of a parking area and pedestrian walkway, installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access, landscaping, and other related site improvements.
The city of Washington received $150,000 for further development of Washington Park. Work will include construction of a parking area, pedestrian walkway and stormwater management measures; installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing; ADA access; landscaping; and other related site improvements.
