HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today announced the release of $2 million in state funds to further renovate the Landmark Building in Washington and construct a precision steel manufacturing plant in Canonsburg.

O’Neal advocated for support through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project (RACP) program to assist with these two important projects.

“Both of these projects reuse existing commercial sites to fight blight and bring jobs to the area,” O’Neal said. “I remain committed to helping redevelop properties when possible before using green space. These two plans show what can be accomplished when all parties work together to bring ideas to fruition.”

This is the second time O’Neal has assisted with securing state funds to renovate the Landmark Building on East Maiden Street in Washington as part of the effort to fight blight in the area. Once completed, the building will house office space. This $500,000 grant will be used for interior renovations and upgrades to address code compliance, accessibility and design features.

Ameri-Precision Metals has repurposed a Canonsburg building into a precision specialty steel manufacturing plant. It manufactures high-quality specialty steel to be sold domestically and globally for production of industrial blades, knives, springs, in the auto industry and in general component parts. While the project is being implemented in three phases, this $1.5 million grant assured completion of phase one of the cold rolling and high carbon steel annealing processes.

Funding for the projects was authorized by lawmakers in the Capital Budget Project Itemization Act.

The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes the city of Washington; Chartiers, North Franklin, North Strabane and South Strabane townships; and Canonsburg, East Washington and Houston boroughs.
