HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) this week was named to four House committees for the 2021-22 legislative session.
His committee assignments are Appropriations, Environmental Resources and Energy, Insurance, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.
“I’m eager to again serve on the Environmental Resources and Energy, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees,” O’Neal said. “In addition, I am thrilled to add the Appropriations and Insurance committees to my list. The Appropriations Committee plays a key role in all legislation that expends Commonwealth money. Due to the pandemic, we need to make sure state funds are used effectively to put Pennsylvania on the best path toward economic recovery.”
As all state budget legislation must originate in the House of Representatives, the House Appropriations Committee is the primary committee of the General Assembly tasked with overseeing state government spending, state fiscal policies and developing a state budget each fiscal year.
The Environmental Resources and Energy Committee is responsible for legislative oversight of 45 different environmental laws in place in the Commonwealth, administered by both the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). The committee addresses legislation involving clean air, land and water; radioactive and other waste disposal; recycling; and more.
The Insurance Committee works to ensure that the state’s insurance laws are fairly protecting consumers including in the areas of automotive, health and homeowners. In addition, the committee addresses insurance fraud.
The Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee focuses on the needs of Pennsylvania’s first responders and veteran community, as well as works to keep all Commonwealth residents safe. For example, this session lawmakers will again be working to address recruitment and retention of the state’s emergency responders.
The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes the city of Washington; Chartiers, North Franklin, North Strabane and South Strabane townships; and Canonsburg, East Washington and Houston boroughs.
