HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today announced a $75,000 grant has been awarded to East Washington Borough to help make improvements to the Thayer Street Playground and Park Facility.
O’Neal advocated for the funding through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenway, Trails and Recreation Program, which funds projects for planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open spaces and parks.
“Due to the topography of the park, standing water collects even during dry weather,” O’Neal said. “This prevents full utilization of the property and limits its use. This grant will resolve this issue so that residents can enjoy the entire park, especially as people have chosen to limit travel due to the pandemic.”
The grant will be used to help construct an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) parking area and pathways and improve the on-site stormwater collection system to provide more drier, usable space within the park.
The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes the city of Washington; Chartiers, North Franklin, North Strabane and South Strabane townships; and Canonsburg, East Washington and Houston boroughs.
