O’Neal Offers Reaction to Governor’s Budget Proposal

February 8, 2022

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s $43.7 billion fiscal year 2022-23 budget:

“Gov. Wolf is a broken record. For the eighth consecutive year, and his final budget proposal, he again wants to go on an irresponsible spending spree, this time using grossly inflated revenue projections. The Independent Fiscal Office, a nonpartisan and independent state agency, recently predicted the state will be in a deficit again during the 2023-24 Fiscal Year. This is without the governor’s proposal to increase spending by $6.2 billion.

“In recent weeks, the governor has toured the Commonwealth touting that he will be the first governor since the 1980s to leave his successor with a budget surplus. One of the reasons the Commonwealth is in a good fiscal situation currently is because we have pushed back for seven years against his drunken-sailor spending ways. It puzzles me why he would trumpet leaving the Commonwealth on good fiscal footing and then decide to spend it all away.

“As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I look forward to diving deeper into this proposal in the coming weeks. I remain committed to keeping Pennsylvania on the path forward and not sending us on a detour over a financial cliff.”
