HARRISBURG – As a free service to the community, Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) will be holding a shredding event on Saturday, Sept 17, in the parking lot of the Washington Crown Center Mall near the old Bon-Ton to give residents of the 48th Legislative District a chance to safeguard themselves against identity theft by having their personal documents securely destroyed.

The event will be held from 9-11 a.m. at 1500 W. Chestnut St., Washington.

“Each time I hold this event, it is always very popular,” O’Neal said. “Properly destroying documents with sensitive information helps prevent identity theft. Even if you only have a few documents, I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Acceptable items include all paper documents. No more than three brown paper grocery bags or open small cardboard boxes per household are permitted, and no businesses, please. Bags are preferred to boxes. In addition, no large binder clips or hardbound covers will be accepted. Materials more than 1 inch thick will need to be broken down.

All items to be shredded are asked to be placed in the trunk of the vehicle, and participants should not get out of their vehicle in order to speed the process. Once a person arrives at the event, he or she should open their trunk.

For more information, contact O’Neal’s Washington district office at 724-223-4541.

The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes the city of Washington; Chartiers, North Franklin, North Strabane and South Strabane townships; and Canonsburg, East Washington and Houston boroughs.
