HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today was chosen to chair the Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy Advisory Council. He is replacing Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York) who is retiring next month.
The Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy was created under
Act 51 of 2018. This 22-week, dropout recovery program located at Ft. Indiantown Gap in Lebanon County helps at-risk youth ages 16-18 earn a high school diploma or its equivalent, preparing them to move on to higher education, employment or military service. The program operates in 30 states and is overseen in Pennsylvania by the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA). Its first class started in July.
“As an Army veteran and ROTC member in college, I know firsthand the discipline that can be imparted on individuals through military-style training,” O’Neal said. “This program will assist youth to find a path where they can prosper in the future. I’m eager to lead the council in order to make the program a success.”
