HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today announced a $228,596 grant was awarded to Carroll Township to replace a bridge.

The funding comes from the Multimodal Transportation Fund under the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which manages the state’s economic stimulus programs. The fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable system of transportation is available in the Commonwealth.

“While this is not a large bridge, it is vital to the community,” O’Neal said. “The roadway is an important north to south artery from Dry Run Road to Bentleyville Road. This project would not be possible without assistance from funding from the state budget, which I supported, as it would have eaten up about 12% of the township’s 2024 budget.”

The grant will be used to replace a one-lane bridge on Hazel Kirk Road with one that meets current design standards. In addition, the roadway will be realigned for better traffic flow.

The 48th Legislative District in Washington County covers the city of Washington; Amwell, part of Carroll (Districts 3, 4 and 5), East Finley, Fallowfield, Morris, North Franklin, part of North Strabane (Districts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5), Nottingham, Somerset, South Franklin, South Strabane, and West Finley townships; and the boroughs of Donora, East Washington and Green Hills.
