HARRISBURG – As a free service to the community, Reps. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) and Andrew Kuzma (R-Allegheny) will be holding a shredding event on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Ringgold Middle School to give residents of the 48th and 39th legislative districts a chance to safeguard themselves against identity theft by having their personal documents securely destroyed.
The event will be held from 9-11 a.m. at
2 Ram Drive, Monongahela.
“Identity theft continues to be a problem,” O’Neal said. “Properly destroying documents with sensitive information is one of the easiest ways to prevent becoming a victim. I encourage all residents to take advantage of this opportunity.”
“My first shredding event earlier this year was very popular,” Kuzma said. “I’m happy to partner with Rep. O’Neal to bring this event to the southern portion of my legislative district. However, no matter where you live in either of our districts, you are welcome to attend.”
Acceptable items include all paper documents. No more than three brown paper grocery bags or open small cardboard boxes per household are permitted, and no businesses, please. Bags are preferred to boxes. In addition, no large binder clips or hardbound covers will be accepted. Materials more than 1-inch thick will need to be broken down.
All items to be shredded are to be placed in the trunk of the vehicle, and participants should not get out of their vehicle in order to speed the process. Once a person arrives at the event, he or she should open their trunk.
