Pennsylvania Permitting Commission

PA State Rep. Tim O’Neal spoke about his legislation to create the independent Pennsylvania Permitting Commission. Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has been overly burdened by the administrative functions of collecting applications and approving permits. By removing these permitting duties, this legislation would allow DEP to accomplish its mandate of protecting the environment through enforcing regulations in the field. The commission will be comprised of five gubernatorial appointees, confirmed by the Senate, to serve a 10-year term. At least two members must be professional engineers.
